Yesterday was Thursday(in most parts of the world); which means I had my neuro appt scheduled for 11:15! Chris has been sick as I mentioned in a previous post, but has had to work until 3am every night, when he got home I was stuffy on one side of my face so he presented me with some of "his" sinus medication. Now he knows me oh so well & felt the need to tell me that this medication doesn't make him drowsy so it shouldn't have that effect on me, well well well; I took this medicine at 4am & when I woke up with Caleb at 7, I was completely zonked, so sleepy & just drowsy! I spent the morning chasing Caleb around & laying on the sofa!
Fast forward to my neuro appointment: I was so excited to be in the company of someone who was educated in my problems. It was my first time at the office & I had to drive a little over 20 minutes to get there so I left with plenty of time to spare. When I arrived the receptionist was completely surprised that I had filled out the 12 pages of paperwork that she instructed me to fill out when making the appointment(duh!) & I was terrified since I had 3 people ahead of me! I waited about an hour, then went back; it was such a great office visit, the doctor was friendly, educated, & really listened to my symptoms. He did some tests on my hands, feet, & eyes. We then discussed the treatment for my diagnosed "vascular migraines", basically treatment consists of a choice of 6 medications; 2 of which are not FDA approved, the next 2 are anti-depressants, & the final 2 are split into 2 categories (weight gain/weight loss). It was obvious which one we started on, so I just am waiting until Chris is home to start the medication. I will be taking a 50mg dose every night for 2 weeks then upping to 100mg a night after the introductory period.
This medicine scares me, because when I read research online the side effects that people complain about are as follows: lips/fingers/toes tingling or burning, trouble finding words to speak, dramatic & unhealthy weight loss. Any normal person would be afraid of this, but if it wards off migraines I guess I should try it for the 2 weeks. I'll keep this updated with how it goes & how it makes me feel; if I can "find my words"
Stay tuned this afternoon for a peak into my afternoon yesterday & a recount of my dreams last night!
